“You built a time machine… out of a DeLorean?”

In case it wasn’t immediately clear from the Marty McFly reference in the post title, this week’s CineClub movie choice is Back To The Future (1985, US, Robert Zemeckis).   You might not like it, but your kids are gonna love it…

This seminal teenage blockbuster celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2010, but it hasn’t aged a day! Well, almost… Marty McFly (Michael J Fox) hurtles back in time (at 88 miles per hour) to 1955, where he must find a younger Doc Brown and find a way back to 1985. This film has it all: romance, adventure, comedy, and great special effects. The Cineclub are proud to announce that we will be screening the High Definition Blu-Ray so do not miss this feast for the eyeballs…

But never mind the new fangled print, here’s the original analogue trailer for you.  Who says time travel isn’t possible, eh?

This one gets many an late 1970s/early 1980s kid nostalgic for the past. It even got the cultural theorist Fredric Jameson a little animated when it was released – he called it a post-modern nostalgia film – an empty vessel yearning for the past.  What would he know, right?  It now seems to have an extra layer of nostalgia given its 1980s iconography.

As usual entry is FREE but we are on an hour earlier this week – screening starts at 5pm in the cinema
